I used my 55-200mm lense, set the camera up on a tripod and framed it for the desired picture. (depends on what look your after). Mine was a full frame pic for to see how it worked out.
I manually focused, then using auto mode i half pressed the shutter to see what aperture and shutter speed the camera recommended. I then played around either side of these until I was getting shots i was happy with.
I dont have my pics here so can't tell you the speeds or aperture settings. You will want a low iso setting.
I myself have only had this a few weeks and am a complete novice in using a DSLR so I am sure others will know better and help more than I can. I'll be interested to see what they say.
Here's the basic starting point:
Manual Mode (Don't worry if you don't know anything about manual mode. The moon is one of the easiest objects to shoot on manual mode.)
Put your camera on a tripod.
Frame your shot.
Manually focus.
Choose your ISO. On a tripod, I would choose ISO 100 since it will be the least amount of noise.
Aperture=f/16
Shutter speed=1/ISO
Take the shot. Adjust Aperture or Shutter speed to your liking.

adding to the previous advice, if you have IS on your lens, turn it off while using a tripod.
