Best digital camera for less than $100?
Posted on Jun 25, 2008 under Digital news and reports |What is the deal? It seems that every camera I've looked at online in this range is a piece of crap! Even the Samsung, Nikon and Olympus cameras! I thought these companies were top of the line? Why are they recieving such poor reviews, has manufacturing quality really reduced that greatly? Anyways, I absolutely need a camera that is ~100$ in the next three days. I need to get it locally (Best Buy, Circuit City, Compusa, WalMart and Radioshack are about all I have to deal with). I know some of you have cameras in this price range, help?! Thank you so much!

honestly, you will probably be looking at one of those lower-end Olympus/Nikon/Samsung cameras. I'm assuming you're in the USA… perhaps you could check out the Canon A470, that MIGHT be under $100 US… up here in Canada it's $130 I believe. From Nikon… you'd be stuck with either L14 (not overly great but relatively decent for the price) or L16 depending on what the prices are there. Keep in mind, when you're looking at cameras in this price range, you sometimes get what you pay for and you sometimes get a heck of a lot more than what you pay for. Generally expect to be looking at that first option.
As a side note, Nikon and Olympus are most definitely top-of-the-line companies. They do, however, manufacture not only stellar-quality cameras like Nikon's D80 and Olympus' E-520 and E-3 (those three cameras are quite high end), but also much more inexpensive cameras that allow for almost anyone to be able to own a digital camera. And as a side note, the quality from some of those "low level" cameras is actually not all that bad as I've used a couple of those "low grade" cameras in a pinch.
Hope that helps you out some eh?

Each camera manufacturer has it's budget entry-level range of cameras. Some of these cameras are adequate enough for some people, but don't expect a high quality camera (in regards to image quality, features and build) that costs less than $100.
You are going to have to spend a little more for a half-way decent camera that would not be regarded as "a piece of crap".

I got a good camera for under a hundred. It's a Kodak M853, but I don't know if they have it available. However, there's another Kodak that is on sale at Circuit City. Kodak is a good camera and user friendly.
Here's a site for it.
