Kodak Digital Camera Batteries?
Posted on Jun 25, 2008 under Digital news and reports |I just got a kodak digital camera and am soon going on a two week trip with it.
I have been testing it and it seems to go through batteries FAST. like less than a few hours. It takes AA's.
Any ideas for what i should do? is there a best brand of batteries for it? Is it worth recharging them, or less time and money to just get ones to throw away after they're done? are there ways to keep the batter life longer?
any information / assistance / travel tip would be greatly appriciated! Thanks!

I use Energizer batteries whenever needed and find they last quite long. (that is a matter of opinion though and I don't believe one brand is truly better than any other with the exception of off-brand cheap batteries) As far as rechargeable batteries they can be somewhat inconvenient when waiting on the charge … considering financial reasoning if you plan on using these batteries often you may be better off with the rechargeables. As far as increasing battery life other than considering temperature and humidity level I'm not sure there are any methods to increase battery life. Hope i was of some help.

I used to use the cheap batteries, but I have been using Energizer and have noticed a HUGE difference in battery life. I would recommend not using the LCD screen if you don't have to as that will drain your batteries. I recently heard that so I stopped using it and my batteries seem to last even longer now. Buying ordinary alkaline type batteries is a complete waste of money because they don't have enough power to run a digital camera for very long (as you already know). Also, when they drain, you just throw them away and they end up in landfill.
A more cost effective type of battery is rechargeable Ni-MH. High capacity is best (2500-2700mAh). If your camera uses 2 batteries, buy a set of 4, so you always have a spare set. These type of batteries drain of power when not used, so always make sure you give them a charge at least a day before you need them.
You can also use non rechargeable Lithium batteries such as Energizer Ultimate. These batteries are excellent and hold a lot more power than ordinary alkaline (up to 8x). Their only drawback is that they are quite costly. However, having a set of these makes a good emergency backup battery. Also, they have an amazing storage life of up to 15 years, so you don't ever have to worry about them draining when they are not used.
To make your batteries last longer, you need to limit the use of the LCD screen (which uses most of your battery power). So, turn the display off in-between shots and also limit how long your review your images. Use the viewfinder to compose your shots instead (if your camera has one). And, the flash also drains your batteries quicker, so limit it's use as well.
So, if I were you, I would buy a set of rechargeable Ni-MH batteries plus charger…and just give them a charge every night. That way, you shouldn't run out of battery power. But, I would also suggest you take a set of the Ultimate batteries (just in case).
