Why do our digital camera batteries die so fast? they ARE rechargeables!?

That's funny those energizers arfe the ones we use! How long should a pair of recharg. batteries last? Like how many charges?

could be time to get new ones. Even rechargeable loose it after a while. Also try different types of batteries.

If it's actually as bad as you are saying, they're probably dead, like unable to hold a charge. There are different kinds of rechargeable batteries, which range from pretty cheap to unreasonably expensive. How much charge a battery holds is measured in milliamp-hours (mAh). When you choose batteries, the higher that number is, the better.
Assuming your camera uses AA, here are some I recommend.

Avoid Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) batteries for things you will use a lot, because they will not last very long being charged and discharged all the time. You should look for Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh) or Lithium Ion batteries.
If it's a weird shaped battery, you will have to find a new battery on Ebay or some other site, but remember the higher the mAh, the more pictures you can take on a charge.

Yeah, it's probably time to get new batteries. But my husband swears that the battery dies so quickly because I keep going back to review all the pictures that I took….

Some possibilities:
1) Camera is set to take a different type of battery (NiMH vs alkaline, etc.)
2) One of the cells isn't recharging properly — you get the battery life of the weakest cell. And some cells are bad right from the start. (Always start with a complete set of batteries for an item and charge all the batteries together… don't salvage one from another device and mix it in with some new batteries.)
3) You aren't taking advantage of various power saving options that might be available on the camera.
4) These batteries have simply been recharged too many times, possibly incorrectly.
Check the camera manual, check the battery manual, make sure you've got the correct charger.

When did you get the rechargeable batteries? Check the battery, there is a numberic telling you how much mAh the battey is.
I guess you are using a generic rechargeable battery. It has lower mah, so it goes dead quickly.
Missuse will also make the battery die quickly
batteries die when they are charged for too many times.
I suggest you to find another pair of rechargeable batteries for you camera, it should solve the problem
