New digital camera-any help?

I need a new digital camera any time soon but i don't know exactly the latest technology so i'm gonna need a little help from you guys.
First of all i need a camera with quite a lot mpixels , 'cause my dad is an Artist (painter) and he needs a GOOD PICTURE RESOLUTION AND COLORS when he shoots his photos.But at the other hand i need an economic camera.!?
That's the place that you guys enter and suggest new digital cameras that are good or you think they're good and not so expensive.
so … go ahead… do the right thing… the good action of the day aaaaand help me!

if your looking for a camera with a large amount of megapixels and pretty cheap for an ARTIST then you should geta nikon d80 if your looking for a dslr.
or if your looking for a pint and shoot then theyre is a nikon (again) coolpix in walmart or anystore like that that has 8.2 mega pixels and is a great point and shoot.
