You really are better off hiring a photographer. Sure, you’ll save money if you take your own pictures, but the pictures are memories to last a lifetime. Maybe you could find a photography student who work for a cheap price.
depends…how important is photography to you? If its important, youre going to be sorely disappointed…if you just want a few good pics, you can probably get them without a professional. dont let everyone else convince you that photography is more important to you than it really is, and dont let anyone convince you that spending more necessarily means getting better photos.
a very good digital camera is as good as a photographer as long as you know how to operate it well. Most photographers I know use very good digital cameras anymore.
I agree with the others it is not so much about the camera but about the person behind it. I just went to meat with a photograpger for my wedding and while his camera equipment is some of the best out there his photos are not so great.
Of course if you need to cut a cost somewhere ask your guest to bring their cameras and be the photographers for the day. You may be surprised at what turns out.
sorry, that is not a good plan. hire a professional who knows how to get correct lighting and who does this all the time. he will be in charge of the pictures, and you can be in charge of being the bride instead of having a wedding full of anxiety and messed up pictures when you observe that uncle joe, who promised to take pictures, instead decides to hang out at the bar during your entire reception. this goes for relatives trying to be DJ’s also. the best thing to do is hire pros who do what they do best and who care about doing it right. usually relatives or friends lose track of what they said they would do for you and it will be a disappointment to you and frustrating for everyone afterward when you develop regrets and bad feelings.
Personally, I didnt get a photographer, and I have regreted it since!
Try finding some amatures willing to do it for cheap.
Having the right equiptment is key.
My husband was the photographer for my mothers recent wedding, and he had never done wedding photography, but with the amazing camera we have, (and of course his wonderful talent) her pictures turned out amazing!
I suggest looking up your area on Kijiji.com alot of amature photographers post there, and in fact; you are doing them the favour! they would rather have someone who can give them a good reference then the money!
Remember that when it’s all over, the only things you’ll have to remember the wedding day will be the pictures and the video.
It’s not just about the camera but the lighting and expertise. Also a photographer can do a much better job with closeup pictures and poses than someone using a digital camera.
This is a lifetime experience, don’t hand it to anyone and then cry for decades about the fact that you wanted to save money by cutting the photography out.
If you can’t afford the whole package… Look for local photographers on craigslist under services and have them even come just for two hours in a park and take a few with your families as well.
Try cutting corners elsewhere like the cake, flowers, decorations, etc.
A professional photographer can be a really good bet. Choose one who has some gorgeous samples of his work for you to look over.
You don’t need to have a million photos, but a nice, basic package is a good thing. You may also have others taking digital ones thru your big day. You can have copies made of any really nice photos they take.
depends on how good the camera is and the person taking the pictures. i’m not gonna hire a photographer, i’m gonna ask everyone to bring there camera and take pictures and send them to me, that way i can pick the ones i like. also im gonna ask my fiances brother to film the cermony with our HD video camera.
I was going to NOT hire a photographer as well, just have someone take pictures with my camera (it's pretty decent) and then have disposables on the tables. But I looked on Craigslist and found 2 VERY inexpensive photographers on there (well, I found more than that, but those 2 are the only ones that replied to my email, lol) I'm looking at $350 for the one I'm going with and that includes from pre-wedding through the end of the reception/night! Extra if I wanted prints but she's charging me a "minimal amount" for a cd with all the pics instead!
Incidentally, I also found my DJ on Craigslist as well, after almost considering not having one. DIRT cheap! (and he's actually good! lol

It ain’t the camera…it’s the person behind it.

If you don’t…then get the pro.
