Why aren’t there any LCD/HDTV TVs that come with a digital TV tuner built in?
Posted on Aug 27, 2008 under Digital news and reports |I’m looking to replace my old CRT TV that recently had its speakers broken (everything sounds crackly). I’m aware of the DTV transition, so I want to look for a TV with a built in DTV tuner. The only problem is that most of these are CRTs; I’m starting to switch over to LCD screens. Are there any HDTVs with DTV tuners built in? Thanks, your answers are always appreciated!

there are many tv's on the market today with built in digital tuners. Ask about tv's with a ATSC/NTSC tuner. This will give you what you're looking for. If you want to watch HD through a simple antenna hookup, then look for ATSC OTA, for over the air tuner.

There are plenty if you ask around. All of the TV’s I’ve seen in curry’s etc all are digital ready.

ALL TVs sold right now have ATSC tuners… which is another way of saying DTV tuner

(This answer assumes you are located in the US)
By definition, all HDTVs have a ATSC digital tuner. If it didn't include a digital tuner it would be a "HD ready" TV or a HD monitor.
All TVs manufactured after 2/2007 are required to have ATSC digital tuners built in to them,
Usually the difference in a DTV and a HDTV is how much resolution the display screen has. The cheap tube DTVs typically can only display 480 horizontal lines, just like the old analog TVs. HDTVs have to display a minimum of 720 horizontal lines.
Most TVs with a ATSC tuner also have a QAM (cable TV) tuner. But there have been some cheap ones made that left the QAM tuner off.
ATSC - over the air digital tuner
QAM - digital tuner used in most cable systems
