Digital video/photography - Canon Powershot S5 IS camera, problem playing back videos from camera on computer?
Posted on Aug 29, 2008 under Digital news and reports |I have a new Canon Powershot S5 IS camera. I use a SD Extreme III 2 GB memory card for my camera. I can only choose between 4 options for shooting videos: 640×480 at 30 fps, 640×480 at 30 pfs LP, 320x 240 at 60 fps and 320x 240 at 30 fps. I’ve been shooting in 640×480 at 30 fps.The videos are high-quality videos like a video camera. They play great on the camera- smooth and nice. But when I download them and play them back on my computer they are choppy, cut in and out, and just don’t play right. The sound usually goes ok while the picture is frozen at first and then the sound starts to cut in and out too, and the video moves a little then freezes and it goes on like that. I am hoping that it is just wrong settings on my computer and is something that just needs tweaking. We have a desktop that was custom built (and we just got last week) and it has windows XP. The movies have been opening with all of my media players but aren’t running correctly.(All the pics are fine though.) We were having this problem on our old computer, and my brother-in-law did something to it that made it run correctly. And they worked after he fixed it. But with our new computer, I’m running into the same problems again. If anyone can help me solve this problem I would be very happy! Thank you.

Can you try your memory card on another computer?
If you run into the same problem it might be your card that’s at fault.
Though it sounds the problem lies with comp.
Do you run into the same thing when you play other video on your comp? (slow, pixelatted images etc).
If so try updating your media player.
Give this a try, download Picasa, http://picasa.google.com/download/ (it’s freeware from Google) and see if you can play your vids sans problem.
Your vid’s resolution should have no bearing on how it plays out on your comp.

Download klite codec pack from the link below. Install it. It should fix anything that is wrong video software wise with your computer.
By the way, great choice of camera.
