What is the best digital camera?

Posted on Aug 31, 2008 under Digital news and reports |

There’s so many digital cameras out there and I’m so confused on what one to buy. I may be visiting Italy next summer so I definitely want a good long last camera with amazing zoom and picture quality. I also don’t want to be carrying around a ten pound bag. Any ideas?

  1. It all depends- what kind of camera are you looking for? A digital SLR or a compact camera? What will you primarily being taking pictures of? Cameras are like cars- there’s no single model that’s best for everyone.

if you just want a point and shoot camera i’d say a Canon PowerShot SD750. i’m thinkin of getting one and the reviews are all good and ppl seen to really love it.

  3. The SD750 is an excellent camera, but you won’t get much zoom out of it.

A trip to Italy really seems to deserve an SLR. You want the most out of a camera and memories that will last forever.

Have a look at Nikon’s D40 or D60 and a nice zoom lens. The price of the D40 isn’t much higher than that of point and shoot super zooms, the D60 is a bit more expensive. If you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks, have a look at Canon’s Rebel XSi. IMO it’s a perfect DSLR starter.
Both the Canon and Nikon are light and easy to handle.
The Canon edges out the Nikons (IMO) on image quality, but it costs more. When you’re on a budget the Nikon D40 is no brainer, it’s a great camera.

IF you want a point and shoot super zoom, google the Nikon P80. Very good image quality. It’s main drawback is shutter lag. It’s not a perfect camera, but one of the best super zooms.

For a compact cam with a bigger zoom, google the Panasonic Lumix TZ5. Though you’ll be giving up a bit in terms of image quality.

And remember, never buy a camera before you’ve played with one in a store.
