Unless something has changed, all of Comcast's digital channels will require a digital convertor. You may be able to get digital OTA channels through Comcast without a convertor if your local stations and Comcast both have already met the requirements of the upcoming DTA. But, you're TV would need to have a digital convertor built into it.

Sue- a popular misconception is that the mandate states all channels will be in HD. This is not true. All that is stated is that all OTA providers will have to broadcast in a digital format- not necessarily HD. This does not actually affect satellite providers as their service is already digital. For persons using antennaes to receive OTA transmissions, they will need a convertor to convert the digital signal to an analog TV or they will need to get a TV capable of decoding the digital signal.

  2. This is a GOVERNMENT edict. Every one broadcasting will have to do it in HD.

There will not be any stations broadcasting without the new equipment, and it has cost them big bucks to upgrade.

Comcast and Satellite reciever boxes have the converter built in to them.
