How important is a working computer in digital photography?

Posted on Sep 26, 2008 under Digital news and reports |

I think having a working computer is just as important as having a great camera. I mean if you have a bad computer or no computer you cant download your pictures, you cant edit your pictures, I mean edits like cropping and truing pictures black and white (I don’t need a speech about how this is not photography) also you can’t post your pictures online if you don’t have a computer. What do you think, how important is a working computer in digital photography?? Thanks!!
Oh if you are wondering why I am asking this question it is because my computer does not work very well and so I am having a hard time doing photography, read this for more info http://www.flickr.com/photos/carrierox4ever13/2663174310/

  1. Very Important.

The reasons you mentioned. Editing, changing etc. And yes, access getting them to the outside world via the net.

You missed a very important part. Storage.
Even if it is a bit overboard it is safer. All my pictures are on a Raid mirror. This is important if you wish to have certainty that your pictures will survive a hard drive failure.

  2. a computer is very important, like it’s the other half of the deal. here we couldn’t print our images without first downloading them into the computer. and then there is the burning on the disk that we do also.
all right here at this little desk with this little computer and little(?) printer,
and i couldn’t ask questions of some of my friends without a computer either. (like i just e-mailed a friend with a question i dare not ask a local photographer, about how to deal with a project with a media lid on it)

  3. It is not only important but "essential".

Where else can you display, print, store, manipulate, transmit and archive your pictures if not in the computer?

Of course to complement it you also need a good digital imaging software.

You need a decent computer with lots of memory and large storage space and a good internet connection to upload your pictures to the Internet.

  4. The computer is the darkroom of the 21st Century - an essential part of the image making process.
