digital camera question?

Posted on Sep 30, 2008 under Digital news and reports |

Do you think its better to purchase a digital camera with a chargeable battery or one you have to buy batteries for? I ask cause I just purchased a very nice Panasonic but I was disappointed when I got home and found that it took aa batteries (I thought that meant it was cheap) but then I thought if I ever needed it immediately I wouldn’t have to worry about the battery being charged cause I could always just buy some anyways what do you think? Oh and its a LS80 Lumix is this a good camera? I just feel I should ask these questions before I use it and can’t take it back, its just for home use nothing too elaborate.

  1. buy a digicam with rechargeable batteries, it will save you money believe me.

  2. I would say it is for user ease and comfort. There is nothing wrong with using a camera with aa batteries. The cameras with a special battery is usually smaller or offers more pictures to be taken on a single battery than standard aa batteries. being able to go to any gas station or grocery store and pick up fresh batteries can be a life saver. I went on a shoot a few weeks ago about an hour away and I forgot my special battery for my camera. I had to drive all the way home and decided to scrub the shoot. so it is a matter of convience, opinion and $.

  3. Panasonic cameras are excellent cameras, but you are right. Li-ion batteries are the state of the art batteries and have been used by DSLR’s for years because the hold their charges longer and can last for over five years. I have some I got with my Nikon D100 and they are still working like new.

If you can return it and get one with a Li-ion battery with similar features for around the same price, do it.

  4. Just buy a couple of sets of rechargeable AA batteries. Use one set while the other is charging. If you’re traveling just make sure both sets are charged.
