Digital SLR for less than 500?

Is it possible to get a DSLR for less than 500 dollars? Because if I sell my current Digital Camera, I would have enough to buy a 500 dollars DSLR?

Where would be the best place to buy it as well?

And I have a Cannon Powershot S3 IS currently, and it’s a great little camera, but I really want to upgrade to DSLR because I really like photography.

Which camera would you recommend to get for a first time DSLR buyer? I’m looking at the Cannon Rebel XTI but it’s a bit pricey for my budget. The Nikon D40 looks like a good camera and good price too.

Subwoofer doesn’t work with “Digital” DVD but works fine when I put a music CD into the DVD player.?

I have a Technics receiver that has a subwoofer out going to a Boston acoustics subwoofer. The subwoofer has an input for the RCA cable which I am using for the RCA cable that is connected to the subwoofer out on the Amplifier. The two bookshelfs (Klipsch 5.25in.) are hooked up to the front L and R in the receiver. The Technics receiver has a button on the front for “Digital”…if I turn the digital off and run the DVD player through an analog source (TV)…the subwoofer turns on but the sound quality degrades from the bookshelfs. Alternatively, I can turn the digital on, and when I play DVDs, the subwoofer simply does not work, but the CD’s do.

So my question then, how can I make it so that the subwoofer works with the Digital connection? I am using the subwoofer out on the receiver….not running my speaker cables through the subwoofer.
