digital camera that takes good pictures and videos but not TOO expensive? What do you use?

Posted on Oct 07, 2008 under Digital news and reports | 18 Comments

kind of far away but I’m going to ask my mom to buy me a new digital camera for Christmas because mine STINKS!

I want a camera that already takes good pictures and videos so I don’t have to edit them on the computer to make them look nice.

What would you recommend? something that isn’t too ridiculously priced.

*AND if you recommend what you are using can you please put a link of a picture you have taking with it (that hasn’t been edited)**

THANKS! :]

Can a digital camcorder also take pictures? ?

Posted on Oct 07, 2008 under Digital news and reports | 22 Comments

I know its probably a stupid question, but I’m not very good with technology. I was wondering because I’m interested int the Kodak Zi6, but I’m not sure if it (or even all camcorders) can take pictures. Thank you for any help.

Digital camera got stolen on holiday. What can I do?

Posted on Oct 07, 2008 under Digital news and reports | 16 Comments

I stayed at a hostel in Cusco that required us to leave our room keys at reception. The camera in question was present before I left the room one evening for dinner, but I couldn’t find it the next morning when I was packing up my things to check-out.

I called the hostel manager and she in turned called some of her staff. We turned over the room and found nothing. In the meantime I started talking to one of the fellow backpackers in the hotel who took my email address and promised to write to me if the camera turned up.

The hostel staff convinced me that I had misplaced the camera somewhere and to not report the “theft” to the police as it would only cause trouble for them.

I thought I would be a good Samaritan and did just that. I took a bus from Cusco to Puno and the next morning where I checked my email. To my surprise the fellow backpacker who took my email wrote to me to say that his digital camera and IPod were also lifted on the same night from his bags.

Unfortunately by this time I was 400 kms away from Cusco and it was simply not worth going all the way back and reporting the theft to the tourist police there.

I have just got back to London now. Do I have any recourse with my insurance company? I do have the receipts for the camera (specially bought for this trip), and the email exchange with the fellow traveler.

Thanks in advance.

What are some long lasting, good, and high-quality digital cameras?

I’m looking for a good digital camera, so I can tell my mom what kind for Christmas. I heard the FlipVideo is pretty good, but I also would like to take pictures not just videos.

Is there an adapter for digital audio (orange) to RCA (yellow & white)?

Posted on Oct 07, 2008 under Digital news and reports | 19 Comments

My cable box has only component or digital audio out (orange RCA style and the black square kind), but my Slingbox AV has only RCA or S Video in. There is an S video out on the cable box, so I’ve got the video working but is it possible to get the audio (red/white) connected to the digital audio with an adapter or something? I don’t care about the quality as I am only going to be watching it in a small window on a computer.

how to get my photos to my computer form my digital camera when it say i need to ?

Posted on Oct 07, 2008 under Digital news and reports | 17 Comments

Okay, so I have a 1 GB SD card that I have had for over a year now, and it has worked fine in the past. So today I tried to upload the pictures from my card onto my computer, and I keep getting the error message “The disk is not formatted. Would you like to format it now?”. After going through all the steps to begin formatting, my computer (which, may I add, runs on Windows XP), said that it would delete all the pictures if i formatted it. So, I didn’t go through with it.

Then, I tried to run it through Microsoft Picture Manager. I tried to bring it up as a picture shortcut and it told me, “The disk is not formatted or has been formatted for a Macintosh. Format?” Of course, with my previously gained knowledge of my computer’s formatting abilities, I did not go through with it for a second time

However, the problem is that when I put the card into the camera itself, a nikon , reads the pictures and the card as well as it ever has. I downloaded a number of programs to see if I could try to get the pictures off the card and, alas, I cannot get the pictures off the card.

Does anyone know how I can get my precious photos onto my computer?

Digital audio Out(Coaxial)?

Posted on Oct 07, 2008 under Digital news and reports | 19 Comments

I have an Digital audio Out(Coaxial) jack on the back of my TV and I’m trying to hook my logitech computer speakers up to it. The speakers have a standard 1/8 jack so i bought an 1/8″ to phono adapter at radio shack.I pluged in the adapter and got very little sound out of the Logitech speakers and the sound still came out of the tv.

How should I go about hooking these speakers up to my EMERSON LC320EM9 tv?
I have standard logitech computer speakers using an 1/8" jack.
My tv has a Coaxial Audio Out.
I bought an 1/8" to phono adapter that accepts 1/8" stereo plug.
I checked and made sure it was a digital audio OUT. But i dont have any other receiver other than my cable box so i guess it wont work??

Whats the perfect Digital Camera for my birthday?

Im turning 14 and im getting a new digital camera. I want somthing with alot of megapixle and zoom. also it needs to record video, and cant be to big, because i want to sneak it into concerts. Im really leaning against the Easyshare z1285, it has 12 megapixle, 5 times optical zoom, HD, and records video. Its also very cheap. Can u think of anything better than that? Is that a good camera?

Color problems with VHS to Digital transfer?

Posted on Oct 07, 2008 under Digital news and reports | 20 Comments

I have a zenith vra421 VCR and a Canopus ADVC110 which I am using to transfer VHS to my mac via iMovie. Specifically I am transfering over Disney movies and Aladdin seems to replace yellows and oranges with reds. I was wondering if this was a Disney attempt to block copiers, or if I am copying the video wrong. Also, is there any way to correct this with final cut or another video program?
