What kind of rechargeable batteries should i get for my new digital camera?

Posted on Nov 01, 2008 under Digital news and reports |

Hey guys, I just bought a Kodak EasyShare C813 (8.2 MP), and although it comes with AA batteries, I want to get rechargeable ones. I’ve been an avid Song CyberShot user for about 5 years, but unfortunately the batteries and picture quality began to deteriorate, and that is why I purchased the Kodak because it was very affordable. I didn’t want anything flashy anyways. The batteries for my CyberShot are “CyberShot Stamina Size AA HR6 Mignon”, and they came with a plug in charger, I don’t know how much the camera/batteries were because they were a gift from my dad. I’m looking for rechargeables, because many of my friends use just regular AA batteries, and after a couple of pics, they’re battery starts to die out. When the batteries for my CyberShot were in their prime, the camera would last for hours. I’m looking to spend between $20-$50, hopefully on the lower end! I’ll probably end up going to Circuit City or Best Buy, but don’t wanna get talked into spending a lot from the salesperson, just wanted to have an idea of what I need before I go in there. Thanks in advance for helping!

  1. For higher power-using pieces of technology, Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are usually the best kind of rechargeables.

  2. Lithium are your best bet, they will last longer than even NiMH batteries, a lot longer. They are more expensive, yes, but they are worth it.

And just so you know, BestBuy and Circuit City employees are not payed commission, so usually, especially with little things like batteries, they are pretty honest.

  3. I have a camera that uses AAs and I bought Sanyo eneloop batteries. They come already charged and will hold the charge out of the camera. They last longer in the camera, too. Best Buy doesn’t carry them. I got mine at Ritz Camera. I’m not sure what other stores do carry them. They work very well for me and can be recharged up to 1000 times.

But any batteries will last longer if you don’t leave the camera on all the time, and if you don’t spend a lot of time looking at the pictures you have already taken. Flash also eats up a lot of the batteries.

Another thing to consider is, next time you buy a camera, get one with a viewfinder. Then you can turn off the display and take pics with the viewfinder. That will save on batteries, too.

  4. I agree with cat lover. The Sanyo enloop batteries are very good. Walmart has them, sometimes.
