i am in the market for a digital SLR camera.?
Posted on Nov 21, 2008 under Digital news and reports |i’ve been in the market for a digital SLR camera for a Digital Photography class i am going to take next semester. I’m not just going to use it for that class i will use it for my own personal use. and possibly a job. we’ll see about that but i would like to get a good quality camera. i’ve been looking at Canon, Nikon, and SONY. it would be great if you people gave me some models and the brands. thanks

Depends on how serious you are. First go with Canon or Nikon, sony is ok, but if you are going to start investing in multiple lenses its better to go with the two brands that really have it down, that being Canon and Nikon. For Canon I would recommend the XTi or XSi, possibly a used 30D or a 40D if you think you are going to stick with it. For Nikon the D60, D70, D80, or even D90 are popular starting cameras. Again if you think you are going to stick with it, get a better one like the D80 or D90. Also keep in mind that you are going to want to invest in a good all around lens to start with. The Nikon 18-200 VR is a very popular starting choice. Canon makes the same lens but without any kind of image stabilization, so you may want to check out the Canon 17-85 IS lens. Not as big of a range, but a decent lens with a very useful range. You wont really need anything longer than 85mm anyways unless you start doing sports or wildlife, and if you do that you will want to invest in a really good lens, thats ranges in price from 1100-5000.

I just recently got a Canon Rebel XTi its awesome!! If you are a beginner I would recommend it very much. Its a digital SLR but has the same ease as a point and shoot. With a LCD screen on the back and 10 MP it takes some great photos. The lens are reasonably priced and if you decide to get a 35mm film Canon you can interchange the lens so it will save you some money in the long run.
There is a kit out there with a Canon Rebel and your basic 18-55mm kit lens. I would recommend getting a better lens eventually but the kit lens works great if your just learning! Hope that helps. Enjoy your class
