I’m looking to buy a camera. I like the classic/manual cameras but don’t want film. Is there anything digital?
Posted on Nov 21, 2008 under Digital news and reports |I learned photography with a 70’s camera, and fell in love with it. I want to continue my photography, and am looking to buy a new camera. I want to have a camera with manual aperture, f-stop, and focus, but film development is slow and costly. Is there anything that works like the old ones do, but let you put the pictures on a computer instead?
I know digital SLRs are like that, but is it as manual as the older cameras?

dslrs have fully manual modes so yes they would work on manual as the older cameras.

Leica S2 or M8 are the only cameras that fit that description.
They have traditional manual controls.

the canon EOS rebel xs is really good quality and you can set it to manual or automatic
and it’s digital!

You didn’t say what your 70’s camera was, so I’ll have to guess and assume you have infinite supply of money, then a Hasselblade with digital back would do the trick.

Either the Leica suggestions mentioned before, OR, the Epson R-D1. It functions almost exactly like a range-finder, hell, you even have to cock it before you take a picture
Sadly, I think they discontinued it, BUT, you might have some luck on the second hand market.
