Do you know if the cost of cable will increase when we are required to go digital in February?
Posted on Nov 27, 2008 under Digital news and reports |Right now we subscribe to basic cable and there is a big difference in price between this service and digital service. Do you know if the price will increase to $50+ once digital service is mandated? Thanks!

Digital service is NOT mandated by the FCC on cable, only with Over- the-Air Broadcasts.
The reason for this is that digital provides clearer picture & sound and uses less of the airwaves- leaving a new spectrum open for various wireless applications. The FCC approved the whitespace (nonused space when Feburary comes around) for unlicensed bandwith use. We may see wireless routers & computers soon that utilize it (it’s better than the 2.4GHZ used right now, which various things run on and interfere on, like microwaves).
However, cable co’s are not required to go digital and most aren’t.

It shouldn’t since that conversion doesn’t effect the cable companies at all. You will still have your basic cable and won’t need to upgrade to a digital package.

I don’t know what you have in your area but, Charter has already gone digital and they are charging more for it, but not a lot.
