Sigma 35mm SLR compatible with Canon Digital Rebel camera?
Posted on Jan 23, 2009 under Digital news and reports |Hi
I have the Sigma UC Zoom 28-105mm F4-5.6 for 35mm SLR.
Will it be compatible to work on my new Canon Rebel XSI (450D) dSLR camera?
Thanks!
The older 35mm SLR is a Sigma SA300
Where on the camera or lens is the mount types written?

focal length ratio is different. but yes. it'll fit. xsi will be a 1.6 ratio to the lens. wich means multiply 28-105 by 1.6

What did it fit?
What camera system did you have before?
What does the mount say? "C", "N", "M", "P"?
Look right on the mount.
That will tell you more than just the model of the lens.
MORE:
No The lens you have was designed just for the Sigma SLR cameras. If you want to use the lenses you have from that system, you will have to buy a Sigma DSLR like the SD14 camera

If memory serves, Sigma, like most manufacturers, uses a proprietary lens mount which is not compatible with any other lens mount. Just as you cannot use a Canon lens on a Nikon or a Nikon lens on an Olympus, you can't use a Sigma bayonet mount lens designed for their SLR cameras on any other camera.
Sigma does, of course, manufacture lenses in mounts for Sony, Canon and Nikon.

Edwin is correct. Sigma SLRs and dSLRs use their own proprietary "SA" mount. What's worse is the fact that this SA mount has an identical flange distance as the Canon EF mount. If Sigma had designed it with a longer distance than the lenses could be adapted with relative ease. But since it's not, it can't be down without some sort of optical compromise (assuming anyone even makes an adapter).
