    Cable has always been digital.

  2. It will depend upon the source for your LCD HDTV.

It won't affect cable or satellite as a source, as they will be standard definition unless you are paying for HDTV cable or HDTV satellite.

For antenna-based reception, if your HDTV has a HDTV tuner built-in, then you need to do a search for HDTV broadcast stations and use a UHF antenna attached to the TV. This should pick up HDTV stations and improve your HDTV image.

If you don't have an HDTV tuner built-in to your TV, then you've got some choices:
    1) Cable or satellite HDTV
    2) an HDTV receiver (also called HDTV tuner or HDTV decoder)
    3) a converter box to SDTV (lower resolution and no help to quality)
    4) cable/satellite SDTV (lower resolution and no help to quality).
