How did most local networks (ABC,NBC,FOX,etc) get digital signal on satellite before the talk about conversion?
Posted on Feb 23, 2009 under Digital news and reports |On satellite TV, (Dish Network/DirecTV) the signal was digital but yet the networks claimed that they were in an analog signal.
I remembered that since satellite TV started to deliver local channels (back in early 2006.) I can remember as early as that when local channels were digital, and always have been. How did satellite get digital signals as early as 2006 when local stations claim that they've been ALWAYS sending signals in digital until the conversion?

The two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other!
There have been digital cable systems around for years. How do you suppose they got a signal?
I am an engineer but I do not work in that field, but I will tell you for sure they did not put up an antenna to receive it. That is the signal which is changing to digital.
Cable and satellite companies have special equipment and microwave systems to transmit their signals and digitize them. No rabbit ears… no converter boxes… LOL!!

You confuse the big networks (ABC, CBS), which can create digital programming, with the local affiliates (KABC, WRCBS, etc..) , which broadcast it over the air in every metro area in the US..
It is your local station that needs to broadcast using digital transmitters for all of its programming (local news, repeats, etc.)
