Why is my digital converter box changing my channels into black and white when it is suppose to be in color?

For some reason, about 2 weeks ago, when I turned on the television, using my digital converter box, every channel was without color, just plain black and white. When I turned off the box, the channels all had color in it? I wonder what is wrong because it suddenly became black and white and I didn't do anything to it. I tried many things with the box but was unable to find a solution. Any help would be grateful.
I just want to clarify that it suddenly became black and white when I turned it on and it was so sudden too. I did not do anything to mess with what it was before.

Hi, thanks for reading my question. Last week when I was out of town, my g/f dropped her car at a garage whose the owner is a friend of mine to have her car fixed. The car was taken care by a Hispanic technician, whom I kind of know of, while my g/f in the waiting room waiting. This guy has been known to steal tools from other technicians from his previous job; however, I don't know why my friend still hires him. Anyway, the next day my g/f found out that her digital camera has disappeared after she got her car back. There were only two people in the shop that day: my friend in front desk and that guy in the back. I was told that the technician drove the car away for about 10 minutes to test it. And my g/f is certain that she still had the camera in the car before dropping off, and that nobody else has used or been in the car ever since. Although it's partially her fault for not keeping track of her stuff, she explains that because the owner is a good friend of mine, so she wasn't aware to take everything out of the car before dropping off. I've talked to my friend and he couldn't do anything since there's no proof. Should I talk to the technician and give him a chance to come clean? Or is there anything else that I could do? Every advice from you is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
