Which of the following filters is most useful with a digital camera & photoshop?

deepens on what kind of image you want .. Polarizing may be good sometimes

Polarizing: gets rid of reflected light IF perpendicular to light source! Will deepen color of sky IF used perpendicular to direction of sun.
Color Gels: Useless, as you can do the same thing in graphics programs
Diffusion filter: Same as color filters…you can do the same thing in graphics programs
Star Filter:…that is certainly a comittment when shooting a picture!
The universal filter to use is a UV Filter…makes all pics more clear. And the filter protects the lens.

The only filters that make sense to use in the age of digital are UV, polarizing and neutral density. UV to protect your glass, polarizing to make the sky pop and cut reflections and neutral density to cut down on light where there is simply too much (i.e. long exposure in the day). Any other filter can be replicated on the PC.
