HAHA no. We are not switching to digital tv, at least not by law yet. All that is happening is the goverment is requiring all analog broadcasts to stop, this means that you will recieve only digital channels if you get your tv signal over the air, but about 90% of people get it through a cable and if you do, then you probably won't get a free digital upgrade.
The reason why they are doing this is because the frequencies that can be used are getting taken up by expanding technologies and the military needs this frequency to use for their purposes instead of to broadcast crappy analog signals.
It's good for everyone except maybe cable companies and the people who live in the swamps that get their tv over the air.

A nice conspiracy theory, but subliminal messages don't work.
The ending of analog broadcasts is being done in order to free up bandwidth in the airwaves for other, more important uses, like wireless connections between police stations and the laptops in most squad cars anymore.
