Digital camera advice anyone?
Posted on Mar 29, 2009 under Digital news and reports |Hi everyone. I've been wanting to buy a new camera, but with the economy issues i need to make sure its the right one with a reasonable price. I like taking pictures of people and places, i'm not too into photograhy so the camera does not need to have many special effects and whatnot. But on the other hand, I want a camera that takes amazing pictures, with really good quality, almost like a digital SLR (of course, I know i won't be able to find one that good in my price range). Anybody know any great, decent priced camera that fits my description?
All comments and answers would be greatly appreciated..
Thank you<3
oh and quick question, does the number of megapixels really determine how much better the pictures are? because ive come across some cameras that are more expensive than cameras with higher megapixels.

My camera is excellent. I love Nikon cameras because of the great quality images. Here are a few of my pics:

I have an S7C but pretty much any Nikon is good, that I have noticed. You could always go here:
http://www.rateitall.com/t-360-digital-cameras.aspx
and check for ratings and reviews… and most places that sell cameras have websites that people can rate and review them.
And the # of megapixels doesn't mean quality it means size. 3 MP cameras have 2,048 pixels horizontally and 14 MP cameras have 4,500 pixels. They have fewer pixels vertically since the images aren't as tall as they are wide. So pretty much, the higher the megapixel… the bigger an image you get to print out…

It is important to look at the number of megapixels a camera has but if you want the best get a camera with the biggest image sensor you can find. The image sensor determines how clear your pictures will be but most people dont realize this thats y some cameras are cheaper with high megapixels but then the image sensor is really tiny so it defeats the purpose. Thats how you get cheated. I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-H10! its $279 at best buy and an amazing camera!

Im doing photography in College atm, i own a Cannon A580, its dropped in price alot since i bought it but its never really let me down, to be honest any difference in picture quality wont come across due to megapixels or type of Camera but how you use it. My A580 takes great photos but not having mannual focus or exposure settings really gets in the way sometimes. So if you want to take some great photos i think you should try to get an SLR.
Megapixels are among the least important things to look at, you won't see a diffrence from 7.1 upwards in day to day life but i wouldn't go for anything less than 7.

I would recommend the panasonic tz-5. There are many reasons for this.
1: It has the highest optical zoom for any compact digital camera
2: Not only is it a high zoom camera, but it also has a respectable 9.1 megapixels.
3: It is a very strong zoom camera and is comperable to a dslr.
For a really good video review look at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g4icsP8k…
Also, it is a relatively compact camera.
I recommend you to go to a local store such as best buy or pc richard and get a feel for the camera o your own.
After all, words can only do so much.
Plus, you can compare the image quality yourself and not have to rely on reviews from people like me.
To look into more panasonic cameras go to this link:

If you don't like this camera i would check out the entire canon powershot line.
Especially look into the sd 880 is, sd 890 is, or the 970 or 990 is.
Check out their website.
Also, look at these cameras at a store.
Here is a website for the entire line of canon digital cameras (even dslr's)
http://www.imaging-resource.com/MFR1.HTM…
Happy Shopping!
PS Panasonic is coming out with several new cameras very close to the tz5 but I would stick to the tz5 for several reasons
1. It is proven
2. It will be very cheap because the new ones will be expensive
3. It is not very different from the other ones.

okay, for day to day pictures, and pics of like people and just of places..NO. mexgapixels do NOT matter. you want a lot of MP if you plan on blowing the pics up real big and printing them and everything. if theyre just going on your computer to show friends/family, or possibly printing them as 5×7's or something, you dont have to worry much. even 3 megapixels would be fine, and i know that in this age, 3 MP is NOTHING at all. i dont think you can even find 3mp anymore? LOL!
anyways, you said you woulndt be able to find a dslr cuz of the price..ever tried craigslist? i owned a canon rebel xt, it had like 9mp, it was a dslr, and when it came out, it was one of the top rated dslr cameras. most slr's are 600+, but you can find this one on craigslist, (with lens and battery charger, and memory card) for under 300 most likely. which is probably what a decent/really good "regular" camera would fetch you.
tips: stay away from kodak. and im not impressed with sony cybershot. go for nikon and canon. canon powershot sx10 would be very good, if you wanna zoom in a lot, and it has a huge 2.0 swivel screen, where u can swivel 360 degreeez..very handy if you wanna self-take pics of you and your friends and what not :]
