What is a great SLR Digital Camera for $1000 or less?
Posted on Mar 30, 2009 under Digital news and reports |I'm new to this, so I don't want to spend all my money on it. I want it to last me a while, and i want it to shoot RAW as well.
I'm not new to cameras, I've been using a manual camera for a while now, and I know the development process very well.

Nikon D80's are good camera for the money. They shoot RAW format as well. I'm pretty sure most if not all DSLR cameras CAN shoot in RAW. The camera that will suit you best depends on what you are going to use it for as well.

You can't go wrong with any of the true SLRs from Nikon or Canon.

Check out the Sony A350. Sony has their version of Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body so every lens used will be an IS lens. Nikon and Canon have their versions of IS in some of their lenses but not all of them. Plus, you get to pay for it every time you buy one of their IS lenses.
Since Sony uses the Minolta Maxxum A-mount first introduced in 1985, every Maxxum AF lens made since then is compatible with the A350. I counted 61 Maxxum/Sony lenses on the wikipedia site so you have a wide selection. Plus, a 20 year old Maxxum lens becomes an IS lens on the A350.
Nikon and Canon also have good backwards lens compatibility but none of those older lenses will be IS lenses.
The A350 also features Live View which actually works with the auto focus.

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on…….
The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.
I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
