Digital camera is basically a tiny computer.

It takes a signal from an image sensor and assmebles it into an image file and then writes it to a disk (memory card). It also shows you that image and even allows you to edit it to a degree.

When you connect it to a PC, it has to be able to talk to the computer.

All of that takes a processor and RAM, which is basically working memory for the processor.
