Will An Airport X-Ray Damage My Digital Camera?

Posted on Mar 30, 2009 under Digital news and reports |

I just wanted to know if a Airport X-Ray could damage my camera? I have a Canon Powersot S5-IS, will I need to take out my memory card or something to avoid damage or should I just leave it a home?

  1. no

  2. No. X-rays only damage film, namely the high-ISO film (the more light sensitive stuff) since x-ray is actually one of the wavelengths of the light spectrum (the others being Visual, Ultraviolet, Infrared, Radio, Microwave, and Gamma) Your electronics will not be affected by the radiation.

  3. No, the X-Rays will not damage your camera, memory card or the information stored on it (photos).

In fact you should always get your camera sent in through the X-Ray scanner rather than metal detector at airports. If you carry your camera on you and walk in through the metal detector then you do carry a very faint risk of damaging the photos on the card but through X-Rays they are safe.

  4. no danger
just take the camera as if you took it in your car
