Digital Camera Settings - How do I make my pics look more professional?

Posted on Apr 01, 2009 under Digital news and reports |

So I have a camera with a ton of settings, that I have no clue what they do. What I want to figure out is how to make the background look out of focus while the main subject is in focus. Is there a certain setting I need to put it on for that?? My camera is one of the professional type ones, not just a normal thin camera.

  1. Im not sure about settings but i use photo editing programs…one option is to blur background. otherwise read the manuel if you dont have it….you can probably find it online!

  2. Vague. You don't need a professional camera to produce professional pictures. The best thing you can do for yourself is to get enrolled in a photography course.

To get the background out-of-focus, zoom in as much as you can, get in as close as you can, and use the largest aperture (smallest f-number) possible.

  3. Your 'professional type camera' is called a digital SLR. The only way to make your pictures look more professional is to become a better photographer. The focus thing you are talking about is called Depth of Field. To achieve this you need to set your aperture (the amount of light let into the camera when the shutter opens) to the biggest aperture possible (smallest F-Number. This is likely to be F4.5 or F8.) You also need to zoom in a be as close to the subject as possible.
With a digital SLR it is easy to achieve Depth of Field.
Enroll on a photography course if you are really interested in become a professional.
