Am I aloud to take pictures with my digital camera while on an airplane?
Posted on Apr 20, 2009 under Digital news and reports |Am I aloud? This summer Im taking Air canada and was wondering can you take pictures during takeoff and landing and between. I heard somewhere if you use any electronics like cameras it can take control of the airplane and we will crash and die. Is this true. I really want to record some videos and take awesome pictures. When going through security will they say anything about my camera because Im not giving it to them spent like $200.

Not during take off or landing as you must turn off all portable electronics. However once the airplane has reached a specific height (they will announce it over the loudspeaker) you will be able to as a digital camera is an aproved electronic to use during a flight.

Yes, you can. I'm sure it's not recommended you take loads of photos because the flash might annoy people.
The use of cell phones can sometimes disrupt the electronics on the plane… that's why they ask you to turn them off (not just put them on silent).

It'll be fine. The only electronics they care about is ones that emit signals, like cellphones or wireless internet, because those can interfere with the plane's communication (it won't crash the plane). They also don't allow electronics at takeoff and landing because they're concerned about turbulence causing your electronics to go flying and hurt someone. So once again, you're fine. Go for it.

Call the airline that you're flying on. I don't think it's a problem.
