How many cables are required to set up a digital converter box?

A Video/Audio RCA cable
A Power Cord

Yes, one from the antenna into the box and one from the box to the TV. The one from the box to the TV can be either a coax to the TV's Antenna In OR A / V cables (Red/White/Yellow). Make sure you select the proper input on the TV if you use the A / V cables.

Standard installation assumes you have an existing antenna coax connected to your TV. You simply disconnect that from the TV and connect to the antenna in on the box, and use the supplied (with converter box) jumper coax to connect between the convertor box and TV, so practically you need two coaxes, but shouldn't have to go and buy any because you have one already and the box comes with the other.
