Black and White? You can't go wrong with some Ilford film. Buy anything they make, it's all good but personal taste will let you pick one eventually.
A camera shop should have a good range. Visit them and ask about film.
I'm a kodachrome fan although I also use Velvia.
If you buy any film on rolls and bulk load it yourself its cheaper. But there is an initial cost to get the equipment http://www.ultrafineonline.com/bufilosu.html Alot of folks do this particularly for black and white http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/KP00519/ http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/IL0612/ Or color slide film http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/KP01168/
Otherwise look for sales and then keep it in the refrigerator
I believe http://www.cameta.com still carries film. I couldn't find it on their web site, but i remember seeing it in their store, if you cant find it either i would suggest calling them.
35mm film is still available at local stores.
Kodak Gold 100 is a surprisingly good film that is available just about everywhere.
I buy a lot of film from these people.

For BW I usually go with Ilford 100. Color kind of depends on what I am shooting though I really like Velvia.
