What are some good digital cameras?
Posted on Apr 24, 2009 under Digital news and reports |I'm looking for a really good digital cameras. Something easy to carry around, gut still takes great pictures. I really want a camera that that has a great zoom to.

Sony Cybershot DSC W170. I got that one.
10MP (sharp sharp sharp!)
Great Zoom too: (Carl Zeiss Lens, 5x Optical Zoom)
Lots of functions
Easy to carry
Cheap (for me, at the time I bought it…)

You'll need to give more details than that. What's your price point? I have the Canon 50D and I love it. However, it's about $1500. If you're looking for a high-end model, I strongly recommend it.

Canon Ixus is pretty good camera, and one of the new ones has a good zoom. I checked out all the cameras last year and picked this one, its only missing the shock proof stuff which you get from an olympus camera and they can go underwater but the video is worse and use XD cards, so this might be better if you need it for sports or traveling.

Canon and Nikon are the best "bang for your buck" brands. They are good.
Sonys are good-looking but you pretty much end up paying more for the fact it is a Sony rather than the quality of it

are you looking for a point and shoot camera….or are you looking for a SLR digital camera with interchangeable lens . I just brought a D40 Nikon digital SLR and its great and good point and shoot camera I would say cannon

check out best buys website. they have tons of info plus reviews from customers who actually own and used the cameras they are talking about.
Personally I recommend the Nikon D40. its a DSLR but oh so perfect for first time dslr users, i believe its on sale right now at best buy for $449.99 and you can get it online at costco for $399.99 and they include a 2GB memory card.

It really depends on how much you want to pay. For around $250 you can get something with 5x optical zoom. Two things I wouldn't worry about too much would be mega-pixels, and digital zoom. As far as mega-pixels, any decient camera is going to have at least 7. The only thing MP's are going to do for you is allow you to print a larger picture, It won't add anymore detail. Optical zoom uses the lens to get closer to what you're taking a picture of whereas digital zoom just zooms in on what the lens can get. That can lead to pixelated and grainy pictures.
I personally like Canon cameras. Canon and Kodak seem to be the most user-friendly. Kodaks' don't always have the best optics and aren't always of the highest quality. Having said all that, here are a couple of sugestions.
The Canon SD890 Would be a pretty good choice. Canon also makes the SX110IS. It is a little larger but still small enough to fit in your pocket (tightly though).It has 10x optical zoom and more features than you can shake a noodle at.
Some other good choices:
Sony DSC-W220 with 4x optical
Nikon S60 with 5x optical
Olympus S60 with 3x optical (But it's water resistant out of the box!)

I highly recommend the Fujifilm Finepix S1000fd. It isn't an ultra thin camera but takes both awesome pictures and video, it has a 12x optical zoom. And in case you don't know, when looking for a camera, don't pay attention at all to digital zoom, it's pointless.
