If you don't have filters see if your camera has a white balance setting for cloudy. Try more pluses the cloudier the weather. Look through the menu for white balance settings. I found that the setting for sunny (used in sunny weather) improved my photos.

Use your light meter, a polarizing filter and shoot at 90 degrees to the suns arc.
The other techniques you use for shooting other subjects still apply …. composition and lighting to name two
