I have a "digital audio output" on my tv, what can I use it for?

  1. Many Digital TV programs are broadcast with multi-channel audio (Dolby Digital 5.1).

    If you have an AV receiver with digital audio inputs, you connect the TV to the receiver and then you can listen to multi-channel audio (instead of stereo via your TV's speakers).

    On most sets, it only sends digital surround from the built in digital tuner. Other inputs will be down mixed to stereo.
