Looking to buy a Cute Digital Camera?
Posted on Apr 29, 2009 under Digital news and reports |Yes, I did flip through questions before this, I just wanted to ask my own, because most of the ones suggested were the ones I didn't really like.
Like the others, I don't really know anything about cameras, but there are still things I'm looking for:
Budget: Less than $400 (I guess since it's my money, I can go a bit over, but note: I'm still in high school, and I'm a beginner)
And of course, I want the best camera for the best price. I also want a cute, compact camera, one that looks like this:

I don't really like the big black, big lens cameras, but if someone can persuade me that even though they aren't as fashionable, they are much better; I may consider it.
Just reading through some of the comments, I realized that the one in the link has a short battery life? which my old camera had a problem with, and it was such a hassle, I hardly ended up using it.
So looking for: Decent Battery Life, Decent Picture Quality (for it's price)
Any suggestions? I'm really excited

Generally, smaller and thinner cameras have shorter battery life. If size is not much of a concern, try to get cameras powered by AA or AAA size batteries. There are still pocket-sized cameras at that range. The availability of batteries and the power they supply is still better than card sized Lithiums. In cameras, power is everything!
More expensive cameras have more potential to take more decent pictures. Go max out your budget and get the most high-tech model you can afford. Features you have to watch out are ASA or ISO ratings, the higher the better. Higher ASA ratings allow you more opportunities to shoot in darker lighting conditions. Check for zoom range. Longer zoom range means you can pull your subject closer. Be concerned only with the "optical zoom" range as that directly concerns the lens not the software. Mode selection will allow you to change camera settings in a non-pro sensible way so check if it has options for sports/action, sunset, portrait, etc. Who knows, you might need that sunset mode during a date on the beach later?
Brand wise, go for the popular ones. Canon, Nikon and Pentax are considered the Big 3 in photography. Sony, Fujifilm and Lumix (Panasonic) also make exceptional digital cameras. Be concerned with warranties and service centers and try to buy from reputable stores.
If you find you want to get serious into photography and not just picture taking, then you must buy a big black lens dSLR system like Pentax unless you go with Canon that has bigger white lenses.
