Shopping for a new digital video camera?
Posted on Apr 29, 2009 under Digital news and reports |I am currently browsing the market for a digital video camera to make short films with. I need something that gives me control of the manual setting i.e. focus, exposure, shutter speed. I'm looking to spend over $400. What are some good ones?

Canon HV30. The manual settings are not exactly easy to get to (through the menu), but it has manual audio control and can do 24p and it has a mic jack. The Sony HDR-HC9 is in the same boat (no 24p, but a digitally rendered "CineFrame").
If you want all those controls on the outside of the camcorder so they are easy to access, then you jump to prosumer cams:
Standard definition: Canon GL2; Sony DCR-VX2100
High definition: Sony HDR-FX1000
If you need what is in the prosumers + XLR audio connections, then you jump to the pro cams: Canon XHA1; Sony HVR-Z5; Panasonic HVX200; JVC GY series…
