Are Digital Rebel XS and Kiss F just other names for the CANON EOS 1000D camera?

AFAIK, yes, they're all the same camera, but named differently for various world markets. Canon has a habit of doing that. (ie ELPH and IXUS) Of course, I traded my Rebel for a Nikon, but that's another story

Yeah, it's all the same camera from Canon. It's marketed as the Digital Rebel XS in the US, Kiss F in Japan, and the 1000D here in Australia and Europe.

They are all the same camera. Canon releases the same camera with a different name for different geographical regions.
Why? To slow the "gray market" trade.
What is the "gray market"? All camera manufacturers have authorized importers for different markets. These authorized importers then sell the cameras, lenses, etc. to re-sellers like Adorama or B&H or to dealers like your local camera shop or Wal-Mart or H.H. Gregg, etc. The authorized importer then pays fees to the manufactirer to support service centers, dealer training, etc.
However, it isn't illegal for you or I to buy cameras in, say, Singapore or Hong Kong and import them into our country. We can then sell them cheaper than sellers who bought from the authorized importer since we aren't paying out any money for service centers, etc. The consumer thinks he is getting a "deal" - until he needs service. If he's in the USA, no authorized service center for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, etc. will service the camera or lens or whatever it is - even if the consumer offers to pay. He is told to send the camera, lens, whatever, back to where it was originally purchased.

It's different around the world.
Some rubbish about Americans not being able to comprehend successors and predecessors (300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 500D, etc.).
Kiss series in Japan.
Rebel series in America.
400D/450D/500D/etc. in everywhere in the world.
