What is the difference between DVD(digital versatile disc) and BD(blu-ray disc)?

I know dvd has single sided, double layer and double layer, single sided. Does blu-ray disc has SS, DL also and DS,DL? what is the capacity of each

  1. Blu-ray has far more capacity than DVD (20 GB vs about 5 GB)

    Forget capacity.

    DVD's are based on the 1948 video standard. (480 lines designed for a nine-inch screen)

    BluRay contains HDTV resolution video at 1080. It's a upgrade that took 70 years to become a standard.
