why the switch from analog to digital?
Posted on Jun 21, 2009 under Digital news and reports |ok yea digital is much clearer, but it messes up more than analog, and sometimes the channels don't even come up for awhile, and sometimes there's no signal. so i want to know why there was a mass change from digital to analog, and why wasn't it a choice?

To give more space to the cell phone companies. Why wasn't it a choice? Big business gets what it wants.

Because the wireless spectrum is a finite resource, and we're running out. Analog TV signals date from a time when this wasn't an issue because there wasn't much using the spectrum. The result is that analog TV signals use a large chunk of the wireless spectrum inefficiently. And now we are running out of open frequencies and still coming up with more wireless devices. Moving the TV signals from analog to digital means they'll be using less of the wireless spectrum in a more efficient way. This frees up the old bandwidth for other uses, such as military, emergency and community wireless applications. The rest of it is being auctioned off to make money.
