Have connected digital tv converter box. Picture is great ! Why do I get excessive amounts of static ?

There may be multiple issues
1. You should make sure you are tuned to the correct channel for your DTV converter (typically either channel 3 or 4) if you are going through the RF output on the box
2. If you are going through the RCA composite outputs make sure that you plugged ALL three cables into the INPUT (red and white only if you are using an S-video connection) jacks on the TV. I have seen instances where you can still pick up audio or video when plugging into an OUTPUT jack (you are NOT supposed to do this) but sometimes it will still work - just not well.
If you can confirm that these are not the problem then i would try purchasing another DTV (or exchanging the one you have) box and testing it to see if it is a hardware problem related to the box you are currently using.
