Slide film, snap and you have it. Do you find taming color issues with digital time consuming & frustrating?

Posted on Jul 15, 2009 under Digital news and reports |

Admittedly I know virtually nothing about digital, I definitely need more experience. I am having serious problems with nailing perfect color with my digital cameras. Do you have any exercises, tutorials or suggestion? Much appreciated.

    What slide film are you using? I used to find that different transparency brands had their own little colour quirks! Ektachrome and Velvia are my personal favourites.

    Moving into digital I find that there’s just so much more latitude to play with colours. I don’t have a problem reproducing natural colours (ie as I see them) but I often want to experiment with a certain colour ‘feel’ to the image and I’m able to play around with this a LOT!

    For example, Nikon custom picture controls allow tweaking of most parameters in the image colour control and this chap;

    has setup custom controls (downloadable) which set up the camera to emulate classic film negative and transparency types. Fun to play with and quite remarkably similar to the film stocks I remember.

    Sorry I appreciate this may not be practical advice for you on re-reading your Q.

    If you’re really having a serious problem, I think I might be able to help. Take it to the other forum or e-mail?
