What’s the deal with "true digital prints" (4" by 5.3")? They don’t make frames for this size!?

What kind of camera are you using?
I am using a D50 and 5D…4×6" prints come out perfect.

Yes - most cameras have a 4:3 computer ratio rather than a 3:2 35mm film ratio.

The deal is that point and shoot camera use a 4:3 aspect ratio while SLR’s be they film or digital use a 3:2 aspect ratio.
4×6 is a perfect match to 3:2. If using a camera that shoot 3:2 there will be no cropping.
With a 4:3 sensor printing 4×6 requires that the photo be cropped. Hence the missing heads.
Since nearly all professionals use cameras with 3:2 sensors these days most of the processing equipment as well as the accessories like frames are set up for this. By the way 8×10 and 5×7 are holdovers from when medium format film cameras ruled. I would not expect things to change that quickly. You need to learn to compose your shots with the cropping in mind.
