I need some recommendations on a Digital Voice Recorder for college?
Posted on Aug 07, 2009 under Digital news and reports |I am going back to college this fall and was needing some recommendations on a digital voice recorder for class. I need one that can pick up the teacher’s voice in a small to medium sized classroom. I also don’t have a huge amount of money to spend on it, but quality is the bigger issue. Thank you for your help.

For stand alone digital voice recorders, Olympus makes some pretty good ones in the ~$50 range. They are most effective if you either sit in the front or get permission from the instructor to set it on the front table (in fact, you should always ask the instructor before recording a class). However many people in my classes used the built in microphones on their laptops to record lectures in programs such as Microsoft OneNote, which allowed them to simultaneously take typed notes and follow along with the teacher’s PowerPoint presentation. Further, many universities have integrated digital recording systems into classroom microphone systems. Before making an investment, make sure that recordings aren’t already available for free and that your professors are agreeable to being recorded.
