I have actually tried all the cordless phones from one location.. ALL have extremely close to the same range.!! 2.4 Ghz., 5.8 Ghz., 900 Mhz. and the over-hyped DECT, (Ecch) phone at 1900 Mhz. They all run on UHF frequencies, and the maximum power from all of them is 100 mw. (one tenth of a watt.) Of all of them, the 900 Mhz. got a few more feet than the others, but not by much. They all have not only low power, but a rather inefficient antenna system. Many of the 5.8 Ghz. phones use 2.4 Ghz. for the base.!!! (Read the fine print.) Range also depends on where you put the base station, and construction of your building. Wires, wood, metal, all contribute to attenuation of the already poor signal. (The DECT phone requires no special wiring.)

all phones are going to be simular. The big difference is "in-band noise". Right now, 900MHz is a popular band, lots of junk, lots of noise. Same with 1.2GHz and 2.4GHz, lots of stuff sharing the bands.
5.8GHz is not as populated, 5.8GHz does not have the physical line-of-sight distance as 900MHz, too much attenuation at the higher microwave frequencies.
BUT since 5.8GHz is not as crowded as the lower bands, then you can get better "range". Just keep in mind that your "range" is still under 100 yards, and things in the way attenuate the signal, walls, carpet, out doors, trees, grass, will all cut the "range".
DECT is the function of the phone, not the phone service.
