Western Digital External HDD elements 320gb undetectable?
Posted on Aug 28, 2009 under Digital news and reports |plugged in the hard drive, checked all the cables etc, went into my computer and couldn’t find the icon or storage. and it did not auto start as well which it was meant to.
right click my computer>manage>disk management
could see the disk but its labelled under "unallocated" and
"Not Initialized".
‘Safely remove hardware’ was able to detect it as well… and device manager too… need help please.. running on win vista.

You might need to format and/or partition the drive. Windows should have the tools, if not download Gparted which will work.

in the run box type compmgmt.msc and then look for disk management. You will find the drive in there and you will have the tools to install that drive correctly

You say you couldn’t find the icon, but then you say you did see the disk. It sounds like nothing is wrong, you just keep looking for things in the wrong places and ignoring them when you find them.
