Questions about digital cameras in general…?

Posted on Sep 04, 2009 under Digital news and reports | 18 Comments

Is there a huge difference between 10MP (megapixels) and 12MP? I’ve had a Nikon Coolplix 7MP for a while, and I’m thinking about getting a new camera. If there are any specific brands you recommend, let me know. I was thinking Sony, but anything else would be good too. Also, I need a good camera for things like live concerts. A camera that has a good sound system too. That’s the main problem with my camera. And that’s about it. Thanks.

Can I connect a lead from my S/PDIF out on my sound card to the "Digital Coaxial" input on my amp?

I have never experimented with digital inputs before - is this how you would connect it up? And would it give me better quality?

Also do I need a special digital lead, or would a normal 3.5mm to RCA lead work fine?

I have a Sound Blaster X-FI sound card and a Sherwood RD-6106R amplifier.

Any good NON-Digital Photography classes around?

Posted on Sep 04, 2009 under Digital news and reports | 20 Comments

I am 13 and living in RI. I would like to take some photography classes. However, I don’t have a digital camera, instead I have a camera that takes film. RISD was the only place my mom could find, but they don’t have any more openings. So if you know of any good classes in the RI-ish range that I could look into, please let me know.
Thanks.

…Or do they let you borrow one if you don’t have your own?

I’m looking for a new, affordable, digital camera?

it also must have the ability to do a light exposure thing. (please excuse my lingo).
which would help for traffic pictures and taking night time pics.
also, It should have a really good landscape shot. like could take a very wide photo of mountains and stuff.
I want it to be cheap for my trip to Mt Washington and for my own use back in VT. like under 200, the more the better. the photo quality is not a huge deal however. my cell phone can just barely take a picture of a hat without it going out of the frame.

thank you lots.
also, if its small, and can fit in a pocket, that’s a super plus.

Easy way to play midi files on my digital piano?

Posted on Sep 04, 2009 under Digital news and reports | 16 Comments

I have downloaded a bunch of MIDI songs to my laptop. I have a USB-MIDI cable. I just want to set up a playlist on my laptop to play the songs thru the USB port to my MIDI piano. I assume Windows Media Player can’t do that(?) I don’t want to record/edit and so I don’t need a big sophisticated sequencer package, just something simple that can play a series of songs. Any suggestions? Thanks.
