No, why should it? How she spends her SSI check is her business.

It shouldn’t affect her SSI check in anyway because it is illegal to investigate how someone spends their own money. Unless the IRS is auditing someone because they didn’t pay all of their taxes. SSI checks are small anyway and barely cover the cost of anything. They are so small that many have to take one and two jobs in order to survive financially.
It isn’t fraud for someone to buy a video recorder. If it was then she wouldn’t have received a easily cash able check. I’ll use food stamps as an example because I have used them in the past. Food stamps is a program which enables people to only buy certain items.
The government already knows that some people would buy other things other than food if they could. So they give them a special check called a food stamp instead. That way they can’t use it to buy other things because they check has written stipulations on it that the cashier and the customer must follow.
So you see it really isn’t the case with SSI, because the checks that come from that government program aren’t regulated in ways that the government has any say in how the money is spent. They just hand it out to people that meet the criteria for the program in order to make it so the people are able to make it above poverty level standards.
