When I attach the camcorder nothing comes up on the screen. I was told I need an editing software. What is this and where do I purchase it?

I want a full body camera (not slr) with good photo quality and a fair amount of manual controls so that I can play around with the settings.
Also, i like to take close-up pictures that highlight the subject of the picture and blur out the background. kind of like this picture below. (also i love the colors of the picture so if anyone could tell me how to get my pictures to come out that color)

why are smart media digital storage cards so expensive?

I have a situation where I’m required to use an SM card, and i can’t believe how much they cost compaired to standard SD cards. Like 40 bucks for a 128mb card. Can anyone justify why this is? thanks
