I’m looking for a half decent compact digital camera that I plan to use at uni (eg NOT slr - too bulky, too expensive for a student to buy, too painful if it gets pinched…) Ideally under £150, much more and I might as well wait a bit longer and save for an slr, also, it’s very important that it has a high AF and shutter speed as I will need to use it to take sports/action photos… A good zoom not essential but would be a nice addition, and decent picture quality also fairly important.
Any ideas?!

First of all, thank you to the people who answered my last digital camera question (about my cable). I’m gonna try the solutions you suggested (re-install the software, try my cable on another person’s computer).
I’m going on my trip really soon and need a good digital camera. I don’t wanna have to replace mine, but JUST IN CASE, I’d like to know about some options for me.
1. A good digital camera between $100- $150 (or less)?
2. Are there any in this price range that can be used to record videos (even little short ones)?
3. Are there any in this range that can also be used as a webcam?
Thanks, if you can help me. My questions might seem a bit naive but I’m still learning about technology.

I want a good camera that can take pictures from far and that will be able to take pictures well from up close. What should I buy a 40x or a 10x? if you answer thanks!!

That are not too expensive. I’m talking around 500-900$
There are so many models its hard to decide and also its hard to know which models work best. My coworker said at least 10MP were necessary.
Thank you for your answers! they’ve helped a lot. I am still undecided and unfortunately I can’t tell which one of the answers is the best so I’m going to make an educated guess, considering my budget and the use I will give this camera (mostly web and video).

Its the one from the advert that has the camera jump to different people.
The camera has a camera at the front, so you can see what photo your taking if your taking one of yourself, and one on the back.

It’s huge! Like about a six foot wide wing span with extension polls that could let it sit above my roof line. I bought it when I didn’t have cable. Now I have cable, plus, all local channels will soon be digital, right? Do I attach it to my transistor radio? haha.
